The Missouri-Kansas Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers is happy to announce the 2015-2016 scholarship award winners. The three winners are Daniel Ricker, Glynis Thompson, and Kaitlin Beeman.
Daniel Ricker will be a Junior in Architectural Engineering at the university of Kansas. He is involved in the Self Engineering Leadership Fellows (SELF) program and has interned with Paric Corporation in the St. Louis area during 2015. He is interested in pursuing a career in the fire protection industry. Glynis Thompson will be a Senior in Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas. She has been a resident assistant at the university and is currently interning with Fire Dynamics, a division of Henderson Engineers in Kansas City. Kaitlin Beeman will be a Senior in Architectural Engineering at Kansas State University. At the university Kaitlin has served multiple important roles within the University Panhellenic Council. She has held internships at JE Dunn Construction and Burns & McDonnell, both in the Kansas City area, which led to her involvement and interest in fire suppression systems. The scholarships for local students is made possible by the annual golf tournament held by the chapter each fall. The local Missouri-Kansas Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers will be hosting an upcoming training course on "Introduction to Fire Dynamics Simulator and Smokeview." It will be hosted at Henderson Engineers August 20th-August 22nd. Space is limited to the first 20 registrants, so don't wait to register. NFSA has rescheduled their training program from February for August 12 and 13th in Riverside, MO. The training will cover Fire Pumps for Fire Protection and Fire Service Mains & Their Appurtenances. Congratulations to our two 2014-2015 recipients of the Missouri-Kansas Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers Scholarship Loryn Goebel and Alex Egley!
Loryn Goebel, University of Kansas, is a student member of our chapter and has attended several meetings. She is a previous scholarship recipient and is very interested in the fire protection industry. Loryn worked for JE Dunn last summer and for Henderson Engineers over Christmas break. She is returning to HEI this summer. Alex Egley is a 4.0 in Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas and a projected 2016 graduate. He is just starting to look at specialties and has expressed an interest in fire protection. Thank you to the chapter and the strong support at last fall's Golf outing which has long supported student interest in the industry.
