About: The Missouri-Kansas Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers hosts an annual golf tournament to support local college students interested in pursuing the field of fire protection engineering. All students interested in the field of fire protection engineering are encourage to apply. Number of Scholarships: Up to three scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and are generally chosen in the summer. Purpose: To provide a mentoring relationship with local ties to the chapter's region, encourage professional networking, and illuminate the fire protection industry to students. Local Goals: Benefit to the chapter include interaction with students and attract future hires to local fire protection firms; invitation to speak on campus; increased interaction with faculty and staff. Requirements: Requirements for scholarship include - + Attendance at two chapter meetings, as class schedule allows, in the Kansas City Metro area during the year, paid for by the local chapter. + Recipients are encouraged to seek summer employment with a local fire protection engineering firm, depending on availability. + Students must have completed his or her second year of engineering school upon award of the scholarship. + Please submit cover letter and professional resume to the scholarship board, by email, at scholarship@mokansfpe.org. A cover letter and resume are all that is required to apply. + Indicate the following, in the cover letter, in addition to the resume:
Determination of Award: Awards are determined based principally on five criteria: (1) interest in the industry, (2) ties to Missouri/Kansas region, (3) quality of application, (4) academic achievement, (5) interest/involvement in SFPE/local SFPE Chapter. Relevance to all of these categories is certainly not required to apply or receive an award. Typically, only a small handful of applications are received and any students who qualify would be strongly encouraged to apply. Deadline: Please apply for the 2022-2023 Scholarship by January 31, 2023. We invite all engineering students who meet the criteria to submit an application expressing interest and experience.
