Join us Thursday, April 4th, for our monthly meeting as Greg Gordon  will be presenting about Johnson Control's new LFP - UL Certified Antifreeze system. This presentation will discuss NFPA freeze protection requirements, current antifreeze rules in the applicable codes, and Listed antifreeze properties and benefits. 

Greg Gordon is a Business Development Manager for Johnson Controls (formerly Tyco Fire Protection Products), based in Coppell, Texas. Greg began his fire protection career in 1978 in Cleveland Ohio on the contracting side of the fire sprinkler business, subsequently working in Cincinnati and Dallas. He joined the product manufacturing side of the business in 1985 as a manufacturer's representative for BlazeMaster CPVC fire sprinkler systems. Greg joined Central Sprinkler Company in 1988 as the Southwest Regional Sales Manager, a job that he held through the 1999 acquisition of Central by Tyco until his appointment as Business Development Manager in 2005.

MO KAN SFPE WELCOMES NEW OFFICERS

At the January 24th post holiday social event meeting, the Missouri-Kansas Chapter of Society of Professional Engineers elected new officers to lead the chapter for 2019 and 2020. The new officers are:

President | Mike Bullimore, Business Development Manager at Keller Fire and Safety

Mike graduated from Platt College with an Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and also spent time at Missouri Western State University. He started his career as a Sales Engineer with Ferguson Machine in St. Louis, Missouri, selling Automation-Robotics Equipment around the Midwest. His involvement in fire protection began with Fike Corporation as Western Regional Manager for Explosion Protection in 2000, covering the western United States.

In 2002, Mike became the Western Regional Manager for Fike responsible for Clean Agents and the introduction of ECARO-25, covering the western United States. In 2005, he moved to Keller Fire and Safety (purchased by Fike in 2004) as a Sales Consultant selling Fire Alarm and all Special Hazard Fire Protection. 

In 2015, Mike became the Business Development Manager at Keller Fire and Safety where he currently resides. Mike held the Vice-President and President Positions with the Missouri-Kansas Society of Fire Protection Engineers from 2006-2008.

Vise-President | Jessie Warren, Fire Protection Engineer at Poole Fire Protection, Inc.
Jessie was the former Mo-Kan SFPE Secretary and is currently a Fire Protection Engineer at Poole Fire Protection in Olathe, KS. Jessie graduated from the Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology program at Oklahoma State University in May of 2016 with a B.S. in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology. Jessie is involved in a wide variety of projects including fire alarm, mass notification, sprinkler design, foam suppression (hangers and petroleum), code consulting, and performance based design. While at OSU, Jessie was elected for many chair positions in different organizations including President of the OSU Firefighter Combat Challenge Teams, Training and PPE Officer for OSU’s Fire Protection Society, Sports chair for OSU’s Fire Protection Society tasked with organizing participation in intramural sports, and was on the Apparatus Committee for OSU’s Fire Protection Society that was tasked with the restoration and preservation of OSU’s two relic fire engines. 

Treasurer | Maryann Quinto, Service and Sales Representative at National Fire Suppression

Maryann is longtime supporter of our local chapter having served terms as Treasurer and Vice-President in years past.  With 20 years of diverse experience in the life safety industry, her passion is building relationships and providing fire safety and life safety solutions for customers. She is multifaceted and well versed in estimating, sales and project management of a wide variety of fire protection and life safety system applications, NFPA standards and local codes for inspections of both fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems.

Secretary | Kita Gandhi, Director at B.I.C. Design Company
Kita Gandhi is currently the Director at B.I.C Design Company. She joined her family's engineering business in January 2018. Soon after starting, she created new corporate branding, established an active online presence, and expanded the business into new untapped vertical markets. Kita's efforts led to B.I.C. Design Company's selection for Cohort 8 of ScaleUP! Kansas City.   

Kita's current responsibilities include cultivating client relationships, leading the design team, and managing engineering and technical work. Additionally, she is driving innovative corporate strategy, improving productivity with the goal of increasing profitability, and employing new strategies for business development.

Previously, Kita worked at AbbVie for 16 years, most recently as a Capital Project Manager in the Global Engineering organization, where she oversaw manufacturing construction projects ranging from $2 million to $30 million. Kita is PMP certified and is an active member in the Society of Women Engineers. Kita has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Washington University and a M.S. in Chemical Engineering from University of California - Berkeley.

Join us Thursday, March 7th, for our monthly meeting as Karl Wiegard, P.E.  will be presenting "What's Up in the Attic". This presentation will discuss Standard Protection Schemes, To The Newer Peak Protection Schemes, and Yet a Newer; Low Demand Protection Scheme. Karl  will also provide an overview of all three design methods.

This presentation will discuss the difficulties and issues with designing Attic Protection Per the current NFPA 13 prescriptive Standard. The presentation will then touch on the Specific Application Attic Sprinkler Protection Scheme and discuss the common misuses and misapplication of these specific application listings. Finally, it will discuss design for the new specific application attic protection scheme which differs from the Peak Type Special Application Scheme; reducing the system water demand dramatically from those being used up to now. 

Karl Wiegand, P.E. works in the engineering department at Globe Fire Sprinkler Corporation where his primary duties consist of working to improve globe sprinkler technology, provide training, and represent Globe's interests within the fire protection industry. Karl holds a Professional Engineering license in the field of Fire Protection Engineering and is a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering. Karl currently holds a position on NFPA 16, 101, 820, and 5000 Standards Committee.

POST HOLIDAY SOCIAL EVENT

The Missouri-Kansas Society of Fire Protection Engineers would like to invite all members, and those thinking of becoming a member, to a Post Holiday Social Event. Not only will this event serve as a get together to hopefully recharge the batteries after the holiday season by having a laugh and a good time but it will also serve as a time when members may be nominated as candidates to run for Officer positions in the Mo-Kan Chapter of SFPE. 

​The event will be held from 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm on Thursday, January 24th. The event will be at Maloney's Sports Bar and Grill, located at 7201 W. 79th St., Overland Park, Kansas 66204.
