Join us Thursday, September 5th, for our monthly meeting as Hasu Doshi will be presenting about iCalc. This presentation will recount the history of the NFPA 13 standard, and examine the role technology has played over the decades. From developing the density area method, to writing some of the first fire sprinkler design software, all the way to modern day tools, the technology in this industry has always been changing alongside the standard. By analyzing these histories, we inform ourselves of our industry and can make better decisions about its future.

Hasu Doshi is a fire protection engineer and the president of FSC, Inc. Hasu has 50 years of experience in fire sprinkler design, fire alarm design, and code / life safety consulting services. He is an expert at using innovative solutions while addressing fire and life safety requirements and satisfying codes. He also acts and an expert witness and third-party reviewer of fire protection shop drawings to ensure the design meets all the applicable codes.

The Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA) is in the process of attempting to start a new AFAA Chapter in the Kansas City Area and would like to get in touch with any Mo-Kan SFPE Chapter Members that are interested in getting this Chapter started. AFAA is hoping to draw from the 4 state region (Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska) since there is no AFAA State Association in those states. The primary purpose will be to provide training/education and networking opportunities, with the focus of increasing the quality of fire alarm design, installation, and testing. 

​AFAA is looking to have a meeting on or around October 30th. Stay tuned for additional information once meeting date and time is finalized.
