I wanted to take a moment to give a big shout out to all of our sponsors of the MOKAN SFPE Golf Fundraising Event! We could not have done it without you! Our sponsors did such an amazing job stepping up that we were able to waive the mandatory donation fee, allowing more people in our fire protection community to attend, who may not have had the opportunity otherwise. Thank you all! Hi All,
It’s time to mark your calendars, because your local MO-KAN chapter is bringing back the annual golf fundraiser for 2021! The fundraiser will be held at TopGolf in Overland Park, located at 10611 Nall Ave. on October the 15th from 1pm - 4pm. We are currently looking for sponsors for the event. Please address emails to Jason Web & Chris Arpin at info@mokansfpe.org if you are interested in sponsoring this year's event. Our goal is to minimize the cost to participants this year and make it very affordable to all who would like to participate, while still providing funds to support our scholarship program. More info to come soon! The Missouri-Kansas Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers is happy to announce the 2016-2017 scholarship award winners. The four winners are Brian Gier, Bryanna Krekeler, Daniel Ricker, and Stephanie Poole.
This year our chapter will give the most scholarships (4) and the most award money ($6,000) than we have in at least the last decade. We are thrilled to have great applicants and continued great support from our local members. Brian Gier will be a Senior in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kansas this year. He has experience working at CMG Fire Protection in code consulting and plan review, and is involved with multiple groups at the University level. He is planning to work in the fire protection field and is a student member of the chapter. Bryanna Krekeler will be a Senior in Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas this year. She brings a vast amount of tutoring and teaching experience into the industry after spending the summer interning with FP&C in Kansas City. She took the Fire Protection Engineering Course (ARCE 664) this past Spring which was sponsored by our chapter. Bryanna plans to build her career in fire protection and is specifically interested in code consulting and smoke management and design. Daniel Ricker will be a Senior in Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas. He is involved in the Self Engineering Leadership Fellows (SELF) program, has interned with Paric Corporation in the St. Louis area during 2015 and Henderson Engineers (Fire Dynamics) in 2016, and also took the Fire Protection Engineering Course (ARCE 664) this past Spring which was sponsored by our chapter. He is interested in pursuing a career in the fire protection industry. Stephanie Poole will be a Senior in Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland. She is currently the Vice President of the student SFPE Chapter at the University, and has experience as a Fire Protection Intern for the National Park Service in California as well as at Poole Fire Protection in Kansas City. She plans to begin her career in Fire Protection after graduation. Congratulations to our well deserved scholarship recipients! This is the last week to apply for our local scholarship offering. We typically only see a few applications and the scholarship awards have historically ranged between $1000 to $1500. All it takes is a cover letter and resume to apply. I wanted to take a few moments and thank our chapter members for their enthusiasm and interest in the happy hour, monthly events, and the upcoming golf tournament.
We had a strong showing at the Happy Hour at Maloney's last week, and it was great to catch up with a wide range of members from the industry. It was especially kind of Sevo Systems for sponsoring the event for those that came which also (incidentally) boosted our membership registrations as well. For those who don't know, we have an August 31st Monthly Meeting covering Fire Rated Expansion Joint solutions. More information can be found on our Calendar. For the golf tournament, we are seeing a great amount of excitement towards the new location, participation, and for sponsorships. We already have three Platinum Sponsors for the 2015 event, and are very encouraged that the event is incorporating many of the ideas our members had from the chapter survey early this year. If you are considering joining or sponsoring this event, you should know that your support goes a long way in encouraging local student interest in fire protection. A huge thanks to all of our 2014 sponsors for making this year's scholarships possible (American Fire Sprinkler, Ferguson Fire & Fabrication, Reliable Sprinkler, Chemguard Fire Suppression Solutions, Fike Corporation, Keller Fire & Safety, RS Electric, The Solberg Company, and Western States Fire Protection.) I can attest to the importance of the scholarships as a recipient from many, many years ago... For the tournament you can register for the golf tournament online, or mail-in a manual registration with a check as well. Thank you again for your excitement about the chapter and all of the upcoming events! Joe Joe Meyer President, Mo-Kan SFPE |
