Meet us from 4:30-6pm for one of our favorite events of the year - the annual SFPE holiday party at Maloney's second floor at 7201 West 79th Street in Overland Park. We will offer food and refreshments for chapter members. See our Calendar page for RSVP and meeting invite details.
Chris Jelenewicz, Senior Manager, Engineering Practice and Technical Editor of the Fire Protection Engineering Magazine and part of the National Society of Fire Protection Engineers team in Maryland will be presenting on the 'State of the Industry at our October 5th meeting at Cinzetti's in Overland Park. He will offer a national perspective regarding SFPE national updates and future plans, fire protection employer trends, industry movement and trends, research developments, graduation rates and career prospects affecting the fire protection engineering community.
The regional Fike Suppression trailer will also be available, with representatives from Fike's headquarters in Blue Springs, Missouri. You can RSVP for the event on our Calendar page. Also, we are looking for topics and presenters for our November and potential December meetings. If you have a topic or a speaker in mind, please let us know! We can be reached at info@mokansfpe.org. We would like to give a big thank you to our golfers at the 2015 Mo-Kan SFPE Tournament this month. We are very happy about both the participation, the enthusiasm, and the number of sponsorships! Thanks to American Fire Sprinkler, Ferguson Fire & Fabrication, Fire Dynamics of Henderson Engineers, GBA Architects & Engineers, Victaulic, Phoenix Fire Systems and Fike Corporation for making this one of our best supported events to date. For those who witnessed our technical scorecard glitch after the event, here are the final standings for 2015: We will have the final proceeds here in the coming weeks and plan to share at one of our upcoming meetings.
Lastly, your feedback helps us plan the event in the future. Please take no more than three minutes and let us know your thoughts in our survey here. RSVP today for our August 31st Monthly Meeting for August/September. There will be a presentation on fire rated expansion joints for fire barriers by Kevin Smith of Construction Specialties Group (www.c-sgroup.com). This presentation will cover fire rated expansion joint history, standards, testing and code challenges, listings and judgments, installation issues and examples, recommendations for specifying, and frequently asked questions. The presentation will begin at noon on Monday, August 31st and more information for RSVP and registration can be found on our Calendar page.
For those not interested in golfing, Jade Alarm and the Lenexa Fire Department are hosting a full day training on Fire Alarm and UL Certification at 24000 Prairie Star Parkway (Lenexa Fire Department Statino #3) on September 3rd. See the attached Training Flyer for more information.
I wanted to take a few moments and thank our chapter members for their enthusiasm and interest in the happy hour, monthly events, and the upcoming golf tournament.
We had a strong showing at the Happy Hour at Maloney's last week, and it was great to catch up with a wide range of members from the industry. It was especially kind of Sevo Systems for sponsoring the event for those that came which also (incidentally) boosted our membership registrations as well. For those who don't know, we have an August 31st Monthly Meeting covering Fire Rated Expansion Joint solutions. More information can be found on our Calendar. For the golf tournament, we are seeing a great amount of excitement towards the new location, participation, and for sponsorships. We already have three Platinum Sponsors for the 2015 event, and are very encouraged that the event is incorporating many of the ideas our members had from the chapter survey early this year. If you are considering joining or sponsoring this event, you should know that your support goes a long way in encouraging local student interest in fire protection. A huge thanks to all of our 2014 sponsors for making this year's scholarships possible (American Fire Sprinkler, Ferguson Fire & Fabrication, Reliable Sprinkler, Chemguard Fire Suppression Solutions, Fike Corporation, Keller Fire & Safety, RS Electric, The Solberg Company, and Western States Fire Protection.) I can attest to the importance of the scholarships as a recipient from many, many years ago... For the tournament you can register for the golf tournament online, or mail-in a manual registration with a check as well. Thank you again for your excitement about the chapter and all of the upcoming events! Joe Joe Meyer President, Mo-Kan SFPE |
